Many thanks for your interesting article, Leigh! I would be interested to hear why you choose Instagram & Substack as your tools for communicating & whether you see yourself as an "influencer" or not 😀

Thank you Janice! And those are brilliant questions! I never see myself as an ‘influencer’, as I’ve mainly viewed my online history platforms as a huge discussion board for people to share my love for the past and get involved. However, I’m flattered that people refer to me as such.

As for the social media platforms I use, this is another great question! I’ve always preferred Instagram to all other social media sites, as I love the mix of photos and descriptions, as well as the apps in Instagram stories, which encourage people to ask you questions or share their thoughts. It seemed to invite more interaction with audiences than other platforms did, although this could well be because I’m not tech-minded and so found Instagram easier to navigate! 🤣

As for Substack, this is relatively new to me so I’m still learning my way around! But again, I loved the sense of engagement and interaction you could have with people on this site. I also liked the idea of setting up a newsletter and sharing more of my findings and ideas, without being restricted by word limits etc.. I hope this answers your questions, and thanks again for taking the time out to read my article! Xx

I think in some aspects the term 'influencer' has negative connotations. I actually had to come of IG as it wouldn't stop pushing OF models. I wish there was more people like you on there actually educating and inspiring. Thankfully I found substack. And I'd say you're definitely an influencer, but a positive one ☺️

I don’t influence the past I’m afraid 🤣 and I actually wouldn’t term myself an ‘influencer’, but it’s what others refer to my online platforms as. But I guess I influence how some people engage with history, if that counts haha?!

And if you ever figure out a way to influence the past, please let me know. I made some questionable choices growing up 🤣
